FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RICHMOND, VA – Governor Glenn Youngkin has officially proclaimed September 18 - 22, 2023, as Diaper Need Awareness Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This declaration underscores the critical importance of addressing diaper need, a challenge faced by countless families across our state.
Please consider making a donation especially during this week to help families in need by clicking here.
Diaper need, the insufficient supply of clean diapers for babies and toddlers, can have a profound impact on the health and well-being of our youngest citizens and their families. National surveys reveal that one in two families grapple with this issue, often resorting to delaying diaper changes to conserve their supply.
Governor Youngkin recognizes that children require 6 to 12 diapers daily for up to three years, consuming a significant portion of low-wage families' income, making it challenging to maintain an adequate supply. Moreover, access to quality childcare and early-education programs often hinges on having a sufficient quantity of diapers, compounding the challenges faced by families in need.
Insufficient diaper supplies can lead to infections and health problems for babies and toddlers, necessitating medical attention and potentially hindering parents' ability to work or pursue educational opportunities. This, in turn, impacts the economic prospects and overall well-being of families and communities.
NOVA Diaper Bank is proud to be part of the Virginia Diaper Bank Network, which plays a crucial role in addressing diaper need by collecting, storing, and distributing diapers to families through various channels. Governor Youngkin commends their efforts and emphasizes the importance of working together as a community to ensure that all children and families have access to the necessities they require to thrive.
During Diaper Need Awareness Week, Virginians are encouraged to raise awareness about this critical issue and support local initiatives aimed at alleviating diaper need. By coming together, we can improve the health of our children and create economic opportunities that benefit families and communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In our Six years of community service, we have delivered over one million diapers to over 30,000 families in need of diaper assistance. Since January 2023, we have delivered 111,335 diapers to 2,871 children. We deliver approximately 25,000 diapers per month to our partner agencies. Our inventory is running low. We constantly need to replenish our shelves and we ask for your continued support so we are able to do the important work
we love to do. Thank you to our commmunity for all your support. We could not do what we do without YOU.
The NOVA Diaper Bank is an all-volunteer organization.
